Alex — you’re right that the Muslim Ban is pertinent here (and especially to our Rana reading for next lesson). Note that 45 didn’t just want to ban Muslims from entering the country; he did ban them, and SCOTUS upheld that ban in the name of national security:

Not just a racist president, but the highest US court have racialized Muslims and codified Muslim belonging as a threat to American domestic sovereignty.

I’m concerned about this “people from the Middle East…are dangerous” bit. Can you clarify? American Christians are not just white (though Christianity is absolutely racialized as white in what’s now the US); most Muslims are not from the Middle East; and I’m unclear re: what the Middle East has to do with “danger” in this context.
